'From high potential to high performance' masterclass review

Last week, Team Thomas joined forces with a long-standing associate People Academy to deliver an exclusive masterclass for companies looking to maximise their people development strategy.

We were joined by an audience of business owners, HR leaders and L&D professionals from a diverse pool of industries, who joined us to discover innovative tools and solutions to help them effectively develop their people, teams and culture.

Under the banner of “Developing high potential into high performance”, the agenda topics included:

  • The changing nature of leadership and the requirements for future leaders
  • Defining talent and measuring potential using the High Potential Trait Indicator
  • The impact of engagement upon performance
  • How self-awareness and insight into others drives team performance
  • Sustaining long term high performing teams through strong core values

Delegates benefitted from a wide variety of expertise, and first heard from our CEO Martin Reed, who shared the story of Thomas and his passion for developing people in business, sport and education.

An enlightening talk from our Psychology team focused around how to define talent, identifying leadership potential by using psychology and introducing our latest assessment, the High Potential Trait Indicator (HPTI). They then applied the uses of the HPTI in succession planning, internal/external recruitment and how to fast-track leadership potential, giving delegates a comprehensive overview of the true power of using the HPTI.


The ever-inspiring and humorous Derek Redmond, Olympic legend and Thomas Group Performance Director also took to the floor where he focused on team engagement, correlating what he has learnt in elite sport with the traits in high performing businesses; and all under the mantra ‘business is a sport, sport is a business’.

I found it really useful and thought provoking. It was one of the best events I’ve ever been to in terms of relevance to our business and struck the right balance between showcasing Thomas products and providing high quality content.

Partnering with People Academy for this event was a significant opportunity for both Thomas and the delegates.
