Mireille van den HeuvelAmir Qureshi

Martin is a hands-on business leader who is driven to help Thomas International and its clients to not only survive, but thrive throughout the economic cycle. He is a true visionary who has delivered business success through innovation for over 25 years.

Martin enjoys trying out new ideas, projects and business ventures. He is proactive, results-orientated, willingly faces new challenges and develops imaginative solutions to difficult problems by creating and developing new and innovative ideas.

Martin started his career in a government training scheme, aimed at getting young people into work. After working at G Plan he learnt about Marketing, leaving to work for an estate agency, eventually becoming one of the best negotiators in the business as well as one of their youngest managers. Martin joined Thomas International's sales team in 1991 and rapidly enjoyed success and promotion. In 2000, he became Managing Director of Thomas International UK. In addition to building a more efficient sales force and growth revenue, he was pivotal in raising Thomas' position within the academic community, which led to the Thomas PPA being registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Hard work, adaptability and a strong commitment to the company led to Martin's appointment as CEO in 2007 and to him successfully managing the business through the financial crisis. Since 2004 he has grown the business from £13 million to £34 million and has ambitious plans to grow it exponentially over the next five years with the new management team he has brought in.

Martin is a founding member of Buckinghamshire Business First, a growth hub that provides the link between public policy and the business community in Buckinghamshire and is also a fellow of the Institute of Directors (IOD). With a passion for helping young people, Martin set up Thomas Education to empower young people to better understand themselves and the strengths they have to offer, as well as supporting teachers in understanding their students better. Alongside this, Martin launched Thomas Sport with the focus of supporting every athlete, coach and sporting organisation in maximising their performance.

Away from Thomas, Martin is married with three children and spends his time between his home in Buckinghamshire, his apartment in Swanage and his holiday home in St. Kitts. He's an avid golfer and when the opportunity presents itself, you'll find Martin out water-skiing.
