Personal Profile Analysis (PPA) is a behavioural profile that provides a non-critical behavioural analysis of a person, designed to emphasise his or her strengths.
When completing a PPA there are no right or wrong answers and you cannot pass or fail. Your response will highlight specific strengths and provide meaningful information to help you meet the demands of your environment, be it in the workplace, classroom or in sporting pursuits.
The profile must be completed in isolation and without interruption. You should aim to take no more than 8 minutes to complete it. Be certain that you complete the Personal Profile Analysis thinking of yourself in your current situation; if you are not currently in a role, then think of yourself in your last environment. If necessary, think of yourself at home.
You are presented with sets of four words. Choose one word or phrase that MOST describes how you actually operate in your working situation and one word or phrase that LEAST describes how you actually operate in your current situation. Your first response is usually the most accurate. Based on the answers that you select, the PPA generates a report.
General Intelligence Assessment (GIA) is an aptitude and ability test that measures fluid intelligence and development potential.
This is a timed test that is administered through the Thomas website. It comprises 5 individual sets of questions that are designed to measure fluid intelligence and so give an indication of your likely response to training and ability to hit the ground running.
GIA consists of a series of tests including reasoning, perceptual speed, number speed and accuracy, spatial visualisation and word meaning; measuring a combination of speed and accuracy.
In order to provide full information on GIA, there is a pre-test booklet (available on request). This booklet contains examples of the items contained in the test and gives an opportunity to practise. We strongly recommend candidates to read this booklet before completing the assessment.
Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue) looks at a person’s capacity to understand and control their emotions and recognise and manage those of others.
The questionnaire comprises 153 questions. For each question there are seven possible responses, ranging from 1 = Disagree Strongly to 7 = Agree Strongly. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Thomas TEIQue Short Form provides a snapshot of overall levels of emotional intelligence. The questionnaire comprises 30 questions. For each question there are seven possible responses, ranging from 1 = Disagree strongly to 7 = Agree strongly. It should take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
In line with trait emotional intelligence theory, there are no right or wrong answers, no bad scores, but simply facets of emotion that may or may not be relevant to your current situation. You must work quickly and intuitively and avoid thinking too long about the exact meaning of the statements.
Thomas 360 is a competency assessment, which provides objective feedback.
As an elected 360 participant, you are the subject of a 360 assessment. You will receive an email that explains the tasks you will need to complete. Your respondents (the people providing feedback on your performance) may have been nominated for you by your organisation, or you will need to select who you would like to provide feedback on your behalf. You will need to nominate between 5 and 24 respondents. These could include line managers, colleagues, peers or direct reports.
You will receive an email invitation stating that someone has nominated you as a respondent and be given a deadline for completing the questionnaire.
The 360 feedback questionnaire is usually comprised of three main sections:
• Rating statements: participants and respondents will be asked to rate the statements, based on observations, on a pre-set rating scale
• Competency ranking: participants and respondents will be asked to rank the competencies in order of relevance to the participant role
• Qualitative comments: you will be asked to provide written comments surrounding strengths and areas for development
Thomas Skills is a range of tests and training modules specifically designed to measure skill levels, helping you to be sure you’re selecting and developing the right people in the right areas.
The Skills Online suite offers both training and testing of specific activities such as Typing Skills and Microsoft Office applications. The training modules are interactive with detailed animations and narrations that you can work though at a self-guided pace. However, you don't need to take the training modules before taking a test.
In some cases, you will be given a multiple choice questionnaire, in other cases it is a simulation. For example, the Excel assessment is done by presenting you with an Excel page and a question about how you would proceed to achieve something, perhaps a sorted column. In other cases, you will simply have to type in the answer, for example in the spelling assessments. Others are practical tests of skills such as typing. There are seven training modules and over one hundred types of assessment of which most are available as basic, intermediate and advanced levels.
These tests are Flash based and not supported on a Mac. We therefore recommend you complete them on a PC.
Thomas Engage enables you to establish the levels of engagement within an organisation and identifies actions for making necessary improvements.
Once your organisation has set up the Thomas Engage survey, you will be sent an email invitation inviting you to complete the assessment.
Engage is made up of 28 statements on a pre-set rating scale from ‘Never’ to ‘Always’, and an additional 2 qualitative questions. Your organisation may choose to add additional custom qualitative questions to the questionnaire. The survey should take approximately 5 minutes to complete and will ask you to consider statements such as ‘The people I work with listen to what I say’.
Once you have completed the survey, you will be asked a set of demographic questions. The information in these questions will not be made public and is used only to help generate the Engage report.
The High Potential Trait Indicator (HPTI) explores a person’s personality traits and provides an insight into how suited they may be for a given job role or position.
HPTI is a self-report questionnaire and will ask you to indicate your level of agreement with a particular statement from 1-7 (1 = Disagree Completely to 7 = Agree Completely). Your responses will highlight specific strengths in relation to a particular role and will provide meaningful information to help you to develop.
You should take the assessment in isolation and without interruption. HPTI should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Remember that there are no right or wrong answers; too much or too little of a personality trait will have advantages as well as disadvantages, so try to choose the answers that are most true to your personality.
