The grand finale: Celebrating the success of our John Lewis partnership

We've partnered with John Lewis High Wycombe...Maximising performance at Kent Cricket

We are delighted to share with you the highlights from our JT100 project finale event, which took place on Wednesday 25 March at Adams Park.

Following on from our previous blog post detailing the background of our corporate social responsibility partnership with John Lewis High Wycombe, we are delighted to share with you the highlights from our project finale event, which took place on Wednesday 25 March 2015 at Adams Park Conference Centre in High Wycombe.
Team Thomas were joined by stakeholders from John Lewis, local business people and the students and teachers who were involved in the project to celebrate the success of the partnership and to give the students one last boost before their exams next term.

The finale kicked off with an inspiring speech from Paralympic gold medallist Naomi Riches MBE, who shared her moving story of how resilience, determination and self-belief made the difference between bronze at Beijing in 2008 and gold at London in 2012. The audience had the chance to ask Naomi questions and gain a real insight into how she stayed motivated during difficult times, which particularly resonated with the students, whose GCSEs are looming.

After breaking to give the students a chance to pose with Naomi's medal and check out the Wycombe Wanderers football pitch, our trainer, Mark, split the students into groups to discuss different styles of behaviour and how these preferred styles can work in harmony to create a successful team. Seeing the students display such a high level of self-awareness and understanding of different working styles as a result of their Thomas feedback, had a profound effect on the adults in attendance.

The morning closed with parting messages of thanks and appreciation from the Managing Director of Thomas Education and Lisa Williams, Managing Director of John Lewis Birmingham (MD of John Lewis High Wycombe at the time of the project). Both offered students the chance to undertake a work experience placement at their places of work as part of a lucky dip, in a continued effort to support the futures of the students involved in the project.

Reflecting on the success of the project:

Collaborating with John Lewis High Wycombe to help change the lives of 100 young people has been an incredible experience for all of us at Thomas Education. It was a privilege to see our assessments being used in schools local to our business and I'm delighted with the outcomes of the project. This event was a great way to thank everyone for their involvement and to celebrate the success of the project.

Lisa echoed these words, stating:

As a business we wanted to offer something to Year 11 students to assist them at this crucial decision-making stage of their lives. The synergy between John Lewis and Thomas Education ensured that we were able to work together for the benefit of 10 local schools and their students and we are delighted to have seen such positive results.

We are delighted that our landmark CSR partnership has been so ground breaking and celebrating alongside the students to round it off was a memorable day for Team Thomas.
