Thomas sponsors star-studded tennis tournament

Unlocking potential with emotional intelligen...We're one of the top Thames Valley businesses...

The Thomas International Open Tennis Tournament at Sutton Tennis and Squash Club drew to a close on Saturday 22nd August. From a gala dinner, to a charity auction and finals day presentation, Thomas has been keeping busy and showing our support to the club and the Royal Marsden Hospital during the tournament.

On the Thursday prior to the tournament, we were delighted to celebrate our partnership and sponsorship with a gala dinner. We were joined by members and friends of the club as well as a selection of our clients to spend the evening looking ahead to the tournament and raising money for the Royal Marsden Hospital, a cause that is close to our hearts here at Thomas.

The evening was hosted by our very own Derek Redmond, former World Champion athlete and Thomas Group Performance Director and included a silent and live auction for the charity. The total funds raised from the dinner and auctions came to a fantastic £4,857, proceeds of which will go to the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Thank you to everyone at the club for making Sutton the stand out Aegon British Tour in the calendar, it really is a fantastic event.

Richard Joyner, LTA Tournament Director

One of the items auctioned for the charity was a 30 minutes doubles session with Tim Henman and Miles Maclagan (Andy Murray's former coach). Henman joined the tournament to not only play in this charity doubles match, but also to run a tennis clinic for 60 junior players. The junior players took part in a 45 minute coaching session with Henman to learn new skills to improve their tennis ability. His involvement in the tournament certainly inspired the next generation of players to aim for the top.

Saturday 22nd August brought with it the final day of the tournament, which saw the winners of all competitions crowned and awarded their prizes. The first final of the day was the Men's Singles, which saw the number 1 seed and current world number 351 Marcus Willis take on Sutton's very own Jathan Malik, with Malik defeating Willis 6-3 7-6. This was followed by the Ladies' Singles where seed 5 and world number 805 Freya Christie defeated number 2 seed and world 345 Harriet Dart.

I was delighted to join finals day and present the prize to Freya Christie as the winner of the Ladies' Singles competition.

At Thomas, we're extremely proud to be part of this year's tournament at Sutton Tennis and Squash Club. It's a great honour to be here to present prizes to such talented up and coming athletes, all whilst trying to raise as much money as possible for a wonderful charity.

We'd like to thank Sutton Tennis and Squash Club for their hospitality during the tournament and for allowing Thomas to contribute through our record sponsorship. The final total raised for the Royal Marsden Hospital during the tournament was well over £10,000 which is an outstanding total for which we'd like to extend thanks to all those that joined us during the tournament to support the cause.
