Background
The Thomas 360 Questionnaire was developed by Globus HR and Thomas International in 2006. Our clients use it for staff development, coaching and managing performance. 360 degree feedback is a process whereby an individual is rated on their performance by people who are aware of their work (the respondents). This includes the individual (Self-rating), their Manager, Peers, Team members (including direct reports) and Customers.
Theory
It is well-known that most people tend to avoid giving negative feedback resulting in individuals receiving less negative feedback than is realistic. This can cause an individual’s self-perception to be inaccurate. 360 degree feedback provides the individual with a better understanding of their performance because each recipient provides a different perspective of the individual’s competencies. Furthermore, respondents’ feedback is anonymous, allowing them to answer freely.
Studies have found 360 degree feedback enhances self-awareness, motivation to change and overall performance.
The Thomas 360 Questionnaire measures two areas: Leadership and Sales.

Format of the assessment
Respondents rank the individual’s performance on each competency on a scale of 1-7 (1 indicating that the individual needs development and 7 indicating the individual is exceptional). There is also a section which allows the respondent to write comments in free text. The report provides scores from all the respondents as well as highlighting areas with the greatest differences between the self-rating and the respondents’ rating. This helps the individual identify areas in which they may have misunderstandings about performance.
