how to complete a 360 assessment

How to complete Thomas 360

Thomas 360 is a competency assessment, which gives objective and honest feedback from peers, managers and team members.

An online 360 degree feedback tool is a fast and effective way to carry out a review. It's a process that enables people to gather performance feedback from those they work with and compare it with their own perception of their performance.

Benefits:
  • Provides constructive feedback It’s completely anonymous
  • Enables individuals to understand how others perceive them
  • Facilitates better communication
  • Delivers quantifiable data on soft skills
  • Increases team effectiveness
  • Creates a better team environment

How does it work?

Your Thomas administrator elects you as the candidate, the subject of the 360 assessment. The administrator then nominates - often in consultation with the candidate - who the respondents (the people giving feedback) will be. A minimum of 6 respondents is needed, up to a maximum of 25. An invitation is then emailed to you, the candidate, and the respondents asking them to complete the questionnaire.

Although it is an online tool the questionnaire can be printed off for input at a later date.

The 360 Questionnaire

The 360 degree feedback questionnaire comprises three main parts:
  • Statements which need to be rated on a scale of 1 – 7: “1 – does not do this” to “7 – does this a great deal”. Respondents also have the opportunity to tick a box entitled “not observed” if they have not been in a position to observe the candidate behaving in this way or if the competence is not relevant for their job role.
  • Competencies to rank in order of priority for the role.
  • Free narrative
There are 2 questionnaires currently available: Leadership and Sales.

The Leadership feedback questionnaire can be used to give comprehensive and inclusive feedback to develop the skills you need to be successful in leadership, managerial and other professional roles.

The Sales 360 degree feedback questionnaire is purely in the context of a field selling role.

The 360 degree feedback questionnaire is competency based. Each question relates to a particular competency. However, the questions presented on the questionnaire are in totally random order and the various competencies are mixed. The competencies are listed on a separate page to the questions and they ask the respondent to list how important they are for the job in question.

At the end of the questionnaire there is a section that provides scope for free narrative. Respondents are asked to answer two questions:
  • What are the key development needs for this person to become more effective?
  • What are their key strengths you have observed in the work place?
