The Theory behind Thomas TST/GIA
Reliability
Test-Retest Reliability
The minimum satisfying figure for test reliability is 0.7 (Kline, 2000). A study of candidates who received the TST twice with a set interval between test sessions showed test_retest reliabilities of up to 0.89 for individual tests, and 0.95 for overall TST scores.
Validity
Predictive Validity
Predictive validity measures what extent an assessment such as the TST predicts performance. The satisfactory figure for predictive validity is 0.3 (Kline, 2000). The TST has shown predictive validity of 0.45 for overall scores compared to job performance. The predictive validity of assessments such as the TST is affected by a number of factors, namely motivational states and interests, management practices and the quality of training.
