Scientific Advisory Committee


Thomas International maintains a Scientific Advisory Committee consisting of six people. The role of the committee is to assist with new product development, validity and review of third-party assessment instruments and documentation. 

Tanja Gullestrup (MSc)

Tanja joined Thomas International as a psychometrican in 2006. She is responsible for development and implementation of new products and related training standards. Since joining in 2006, she has been instrumental in the development of Thomas’ Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (EIQ). Tanja’s role also includes validation research. In the May 2007, she presented the results of her cross validation research on the Thomas PPA and Orpheus at the EAWOP Conference (Stockholm). 

Prior to joining Thomas, Tanja served as a psychometric consultant at City University's Psychometrics Centre (now Cambridge Assessment). She is currently an Associate of The Psychometrics Centre at Cambridge Assessment. Tanja holds a BSc Honours (Psychology) and MSc (Psychometrics) from City University. She also holds a diploma in Business Coaching & Personal Development. Prior to moving to the UK, Tanja studied law and business economics at University of Copenhagen's Business School.


Peter Dann (PhD)

Dr. Dann has developed a wide range of assessment and diagnostic psychometric tests and has worked with Thomas International for 25 years.

Since 1984, Dr. Dann has been significantly involved with the design and development of BARB, a computer-based battery of 'item-generative' tests for recruits and officer selection in the British Armed forces. He is currently also involved with work for the National Health Service to improve communications between medical staff and patients with learning disabilities.

Dr. Dann’s research interests include human-computer interaction, computer-based assessment test construction and psychological aspects of reading and cerebral asymmetry.  He was a member of the first British Psychological Society committee to provide recommendations for the design of software for computer based assessment and his book, 'Advances in Computer-Based Human Assessment ', edited with Sidney Irvine and Janet Collis, discusses theoretical and operational issues in the use of computer technology for the assessment of human performance and abilities.

Dr. Dann has been a Consultant Chartered Psychologist for 18 years and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He worked for over 20 years at the University of Plymouth as a Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Psychology where he was a founding member of the Human Assessment Laboratory (HAL) and Head of Systems Development.


Paula Bainbridge

Paula joined Thomas in 1998 and  serves as Thomas International’s Regional Key Accounts Manager (South). Her role includes developing Key Account clients, managing Key Account pricing and servicing agreements to maintain the standard and quality of service. In addition, Paula directly manages local consultants allocated to Key Accounts in the south of England.

Paula also serves as Thomas International’s Product Manager. In this capacity her role involves identifying current products that require further development.  She holds a BPS Certificate in Occupational Testing Level B and A, Occupational Psychology Master of Science and Applied Psychology Bachelor of Science.


Steve Newstead (PhD)

Steve has lectured and held various positions including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty and Pro Vice Chancellor at Plymouth Polytechnic and the University of Plymouth.  He holds a BA (Philosophy, Physiology and Psychology) from Keble College, Oxford and a PhD (psychology of language) from the University of Nottingham. Steve is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (FBPsS), a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), a Member of the Experimental Psychology Society and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS).


Ian Florance
 
Ian is Managing Director of Only Connect Ltd, a marketing and psychometric testing services company, based in Oxfordshire, England. He is secretary of the European Test Publishers Group and the Business Test Publishers Group, a consultant to the Psychometrics Centre, Cambridge Assessment  and an advertising tutor at The University of the Arts, London.
 
Ian worked for educational and trade publishers in a variety of promotional roles before specializing in clinical, educational and business test publishing at nferNelson, the UK’s largest independent provider of paper and digital assessments. Ian also served as Director responsible for ASE, an occupational test publishing, training and consultancy company. He has worked as a copywriter, promotions manager, marketing director and international development director.
 
Ian holds a BPS Certificate in Occupational Testing Level B and A. He has trained in management at Henley, Ashridge and Insead Management Schools. His interests include music, cricket, traveling, walking, cycling and reading.

Ray Reed

Ray is the founder of Thomas International. Since establishing the Company with Dr. Thomas Hendrickson in 1981, he has held a number of positions including Chairman and Chief Executive. He continues to serve on the Advisory Committee as well as on the Boards of Thomas International and Thomas International UK. Prior to starting Thomas, Ray worked with a number of UK companies including the Reckitt Group.
