Emotional Intelligence (EI)

The Thomas EI Questionnaire is an accurate and objective way to measure an individual's perception of their emotional competencies in the work context.

The concept of emotional intelligence came from challenges that intelligence, or IQ, was one of the most reliable indicators of performance.  IQ is only part of the story when it comes to predicting success.  Success is down to technical skills, behaviour and emotional competence.  Emotion and behaviour has a massive impact on an individual's as well as an organisation's performance.

Emotional Intelligence Testing can help you recruit more effectively, manage your people better, equip your managers with the skills they need to be more successful, facilitate more productive teams and enable better communication throughout the organisation.

It is a predictor of performance, indicating how well people understand and manage their emotions, how well they interpret and deal with the emotions of others and how they use this knowledge to manage relationships.

The Thomas Emotional Intelligence questionnaire can answer questions such as ...
  • How optimistically does this candidate see his/her future?
  • Does this person possess leadership qualities?
  • How will the individual handle conflict in the workplace?
  • How does this person tolerate stress in the workplace?
  • How happy is this candidate with his/her current situation?
The EI questionnaire is comprised of 183 questions ranked through seven options from 'completely disagree' to 'completely agree', taking approximately 20-25 minutes to complete.  It gives you a snapshot of an individual's emotional functioning and detail on 15 key emotional facets.  The results are provided in concise, easy to understand text, which also indicates the likely organisational fit and a caveat for a below or above average score, for each individual factor and facet.

It is underpinned by a leading International research programme lead by Dr K V Petrides at the Institute of Education, University of London.  There are no right or wrong answers, or good or bad scores, simply facets that are either acceptable or unacceptable in a specific job rob role.

Key Aspects:
  • Quick and Easy to administer
  • Objective and fair
  • Reliable
  • Applicable at all levels of the organisation, across all jobs
  • Reduces staff turnover and its cost
  • Reduces the cost of development
  • Ability to benchmark and raise standards
  • Identifies areas for development
  • Projects a professional image to candidates
Emotional Intelligence will add to behavioural assessments, such as PPA, to give a more rounded view of an individual's potential.  PPA indicates the individual's preferred working style and Emotional Intelligence indicates how well they are aware of and can manage their emotions and those of others.
